# Riverside Luxury Apartments — Acoustic Glazing Package

ResidentialLondon, UKDuration: 7 monthsArea: Not disclosed

Glass Technique Ltd supplied and installed acoustic laminated glass windows and balcony glazing for a 48-unit luxury apartment development on the Thames riverside, adjacent to a mainline railway. The acoustic specification achieved Rw 48 dB sound reduction throughout, transforming the residential experience in a noise-challenged location.

## The Challenge

A new-build luxury apartment development on London's riverside was located directly adjacent to a mainline railway, with trains passing at close range throughout the day and night. Standard glazing would not meet the acoustic performance required for premium residential occupancy. The developer needed a glazing solution that achieved significant noise reduction while maintaining the architectural vision of floor-to-ceiling glazing with river views. The specification had to balance acoustic performance, thermal efficiency, and security across window and balcony applications.

## Our Solution

Glass Technique Ltd specified asymmetric acoustic laminated glass configurations using acoustic PVB interlayers to achieve Rw 48 dB sound reduction. Window units were double-glazed with varying pane thicknesses to maximise noise attenuation across the relevant frequency range. Balcony balustrades used acoustic laminated glass to maintain views while reducing transmitted noise. All units were tested to ISO 10140 and EN 12758 standards, with post-installation acoustic verification across a sample of apartments.

## Results

Post-installation acoustic testing confirmed Rw 48 dB performance across all installed units. Residents reported significant noise reduction compared to standard glazing, with the railway barely audible from inside the apartments. The developer achieved the premium positioning required for riverside living, with the acoustic glass specification as a key selling point in marketing materials.
